The Pre-kindergarten program is a balance of academic learning and child-directed exploration and play. Our goals are that children will love to learn, love to come to school and will be successful at kindergarten entry.
Bible Exploration
Bible stories and scriptures are taught with the emphasis on revealing God’s love for each child and to encourage character development.
Reading
Reading is taught phonetically with one-on-one instruction time, as well as group learning. Children learn consonant and short vowel sounds. Students learn to print using traditional manuscript. Comprehension skills are strengthened through engaging group story times and related activities.
Math Skills
Math skills are infused into all activities including numeral recognition 1-20, counting to 20+, 1-1 correspondence, patterns, puzzles, measurement, sequencing and beginning addition.
Science & Social Studies
Hands-on, creative units of learning such as “All Around The World,” The Rainforest, Pilgrims & Native Americans and Ocean Life are taught throughout the year.
Music & Arts
The joy of musical expression is infused throughout the preschool day with daily music class and additional group time songs and movement. Musical performances by the students are scheduled twice yearly. Directed and open-ended art experiences are experienced daily in the classroom. Our annual Art Show celebrates and highlights each student’s creative works.
Gross Motor Development
Our full-sized indoor gym provides for daily exercise in rainy Oregon! Our two spacious outdoor playgrounds give ample outdoor play time.
A Typical Pre-Kindergarten Day Includes:
Bible Stories, Learning about Jesus, Direct Reading Instruction, Child-Directed Play Time, Music, Singing and Movement, Circle Time, Phonics, Pre-K Math Skills, Arts and Crafts, Snack Time, Story Time, Large Motor Play.
